CATALYTIC EVENTS: CRUCIAL KICK-OFF
W H O S H O U L D R E A D T H I S ?
> KICK-OFF TEAM
> SMALL GROUPS TEAM
PRINCIPLES
There are two things that happen with this Kick-Off. First, it gives your church focus.
This campaign is built on several key principles, one of which is the principle of concentrated focus.
This means that during your campaign, the entire church – every age group, every ministry, every small group, and every worship service – focuses on the same thing together.
It is amazing what happens when your entire church concentrates on the same truth.
PLAN
Here is the plan for creating a successful Kick-Off event:
Ignite Enthusiasm.
This has got to be THE event of the season! The more you promote this and get excited about it,
the better your attendance will be. Don’t let this turn into just another weekend service. Create a buzz surrounding your Kick-Off so that people won’t want to feel left out.
Influence People.
The pastor is the key influencer in getting your people to attend. Pastor, ask your people to make
this Kick-Off a priority! Communicate things like, “I’m looking forward to learning along with you. Here are some things that will be covered that I’m excited about.” Your enthusiasm is catching.
Involve Leaders.
Ask your leaders to commit to your launching event. Have them personally invite the people in their circle of influence. Be sure to include your leaders early in the process so they have time to spread the word.
Invite guests. Encourage your congregation to invite friends to attend with them. It is amazing how new people can take the enthusiasm of your church to a new level! The Kick-Off has power for heart change, and people from every point on the spiritual spectrum will find something life-changing in this message.
PRACTICAL TIPS
Pray Together.
Make sure that prayer is a focus of your Kick-Off Team meetings, and that when you pray, you lean on
God for his empowering. This will just be another message unless you have sought God’s direction for your Kick-Off.
Promote Early.
Don’t leave your promotion of this event until the week before. Promote the Kick-Off early enough so
that people have plenty of time to make plans to be there.
Plan for Childcare.
If you are going to do the kick off event during your weekend services, then childcare is already
taken care of. If you are going to host the event on some other day, then make adequate plans for childcare.
Obviously, parents of young children will be more likely to attend if their children can be looked after on-site during the showing of the message.
Provide Food.
“If you feed them, they will come.” Have a pancake breakfast before your Kick-Off, or a church-wide
potluck afterwards. Add some sort of social feature to this kickoff service that will give it significance and provide a place for your people to mingle, connect, and reflect on what they learned.
Place the Focus on Christ.
In the end, the real excitement of this event is caused not by anything that you can do.
Jesus has the power to change people, to change our churches and to change our communities.
