overview
of
getting
into
the
SCRIPTURE
(1) ON YOUR OWN
- The Quiet Time
The heart of the program is the individual study of Scripture before the group session and the teaching session. A person can be in the program without being in a group, by doing the home assignments and attending the teaching sessions.
The home assignments is designed for beginner Bible students.
The worksheet for each study unit is in three parts:
(a) Read – to get the “bird’s eye view” of the passage and jot down on the worksheet your first impressions,
(b) Search – to get the “worm’s eye view” of the passage, studying the passage verse by verse to find answer for specific questions, and
(c) Apply¬ – to find out what God is saying to you in this passage for your life right now.
(2) WITH A GROUP
- The LIFEGroup Time
The complete home assignment is the basis for the group sharing experience.
The “Group Agenda” on the worksheet provides guided questions for the group to share on three levels of sharing:
(a) To Begin questions,
(b) To Go Deeper questions, and
(c) To Close questions.
The leadership rotates around the group, and an “empty chair” is provided for newcomers to the group. When the group reaches eight in number, the group divides into groups of 4 before starting on the sharing – 4 around the kitchen table, 4 around the dining table, etc. In this way, the group can keep on growing in number, yet get too large for good participation in sharing.
(3) WITH A TEACHER
- The Expository Preaching / The Sunday Time
All of the small groups come together once a week to hear the pastor or teacher lecture on the same Scripture passage. The teaching sessions can be at the Sunday school hour, the Sunday morning worship service or one night in the week when the group meetings and teaching session are combined.
People in the church who are not in the program are invited to the teaching sessions, and can join a small group if they wish to become involved. In fact, some of the test churches in this program found that the best way to start groups in the program was to begin the teaching of a Book of Scripture and invite people to join a group and “study” along.”
